1. What is Stained Glass? Return to top of page.
The art of cutting glass into different shapes and either foiling the edges with cooper foil or fitting them into channeled lead strips. The individual pieces are soldered together, and usually framed, suspended by chain or built into a door or window.
2. What are the types of glass used? Return to top of page.
There are many different colors and texture available for stained glass. Some of these types include: Translucent, Opaque, Wispy, Iridescent, and Beveled.
3. What is translucent glass? Return to top of page.
Colored or textured glass that allows light to pass through so that objects can be seen clearly through the glass.
4. What is opaque colored glass? Return to top of page.
Colored or textured glass that allows a limited amount of light to pass through it. This type of glass is difficult to see through.
5. What is wispy glass? Return to top of page.
Colored or textured glass that combines translucent and opaque features.
6. What is iridescent glass? Return to top of page.
Colored or textured glass that has a colorful shimmering surface.
7. What are bevels? Return to top of page.
Cold glass (usually clear, thick plate) whose edges have been ground and polished to an angle other than 90 degrees. Light is refracted and a prism-like effect results.

8. Whose design is used? Return to top of page.
Any design that you have currently can be adapted into a custom stained glass piece. Or, I can create a specific design based on your requirements.
9. How do I hang my stained glass picture? Return to top of page.
If the picture is framed, then picture hooks appropriate to accomodate the weight are enclosed when shipped. Unframed pictures will generally have chains attached. You can obtain "J" hooks, which would be appropriate to screw into the door or window jam. Hanging a picture will depend on type of wall. (i.e. brick, concrete, drywall, wood, etc.) Each type of surface may require a different process in order to hang the picture.
10. Can I install a stained glass picture into a door or window? Return to top of page.
The stained glass picture cannot take the place of existing exterior glass. In order to install a stained glass picture into a door or window, you must butt the picture up against an existing clear glass door or window. Quarter round moulding must be applied around the perimeter of the stained glass picture to keep it in place.
11. How long does it take to get a custom stained glass picture? Return to top of page.
After the design has been approved, it takes 6 to 10 weeks subject to availability of glass. If the stained glass picture cannot be completed within the given period, then you will be notified by Alice Chick.
